Terms of Service

Effective Date: September 24, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and The Direct API Pte. Ltd., a company incorporated in Singapore (“we”, “us”), and govern your use of the thefoodapi.io website, the launch list and the free sample dataset. The Food API is a product of The Direct API Pte. Ltd. and is currently in development: no paid dataset or API is offered yet. Separate terms will govern the paid products when they launch.

1. The Site

The site describes a product in development, shows sample data in its launch schema, and lets you request a free sample dataset. Everything on the site about the future product (planned endpoints, roadmap, the size of the full catalog, timelines) is preliminary and may change or be withdrawn before launch without notice. A stated catalog target is a goal, not a promise. Nothing on the site is an offer to sell, a guarantee of launch, or a commitment to any feature, timeline, coverage, or price.

2. The Launch List

Requesting the sample adds your email address to our launch list and means we will contact you about the sample and about The Food API’s launch, as described in the Privacy Policy. It creates no account, no obligation to buy, and no entitlement to any product, discount, or access. You can leave the list at any time by emailing us.

3. The Free Sample Dataset

The sample dataset (product records, schema documentation and product images delivered as a zip archive) is licensed to you, not sold. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to download one copy and use it for internal evaluation only: loading, querying, prototyping, benchmarking and internal demonstrations, to decide whether the full dataset fits your needs.

You may not:

  • redistribute, publish, sublicense, sell or otherwise make the sample or any substantial part of it available to third parties, including as a dataset on any data-sharing platform;
  • use the sample in a product, service or public model made available to end users or customers;
  • remove or alter any notice in the archive, or represent the sample as your own work or as an official dataset of any retailer or brand;
  • share your personal download link. Each recipient should request their own.

The sample is provided free of charge, “as is”, and may be superseded, changed or withdrawn at any time. We may revoke this licence on notice; on revocation you must delete your copies. Product names, brands and images in the sample belong to their respective owners and appear as factual references only. Commercial use of the data will be covered by the licence that accompanies the paid dataset at launch.

4. Intellectual Property

The site’s content, design and branding, the schema, the normalization and the compilation of the dataset are owned by The Direct API Pte. Ltd.. You may not scrape, copy at scale, republish, or resell site content.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to disrupt or probe the site, circumvent its protections (including the signed download links and rate limits), submit false or automated sample requests, or use the site in any unlawful way.

6. No Warranty

The site, the sample dataset and all information on or in them are provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness or fitness for a particular purpose. See also the Health & Legal Disclaimer.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Direct API Pte. Ltd. shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site or the sample dataset. Our total liability for any claim relating to the site or the sample shall not exceed one hundred US dollars (US$100).

8. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms as the product approaches launch. The effective date above always reflects the current version; continued use of the site or the sample after a change constitutes acceptance.

9. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Singapore. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Singapore.
